VTech Defective Infant Mobile Recalled Due to Injury Hazard
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall of about 37,000 “Lights & Lullabies” mobiles. An additional 4,800 units have been recalled in Canada. The battery operated mobile was sold in white and pink or white and blue with a clamp. It functions like a traditional crib mobile, but a clamp design allows it to also be attached to infant carriers, playpens, and strollers. Reports have been made that the clamp (shown below) on the mobile is defective and can break, causing the 2lbs plus mobile to fall, posing a serious injury hazard to infants.
The products were manufactured by VTech Electronics of China and sold at numerous U.S. retailers, including Kmart, Walmart and online at Amazon.com and zulily.com from December 2015 through November 2017. VTech notified retailers on November 30, 2017 to remove all affected products from their shelves. Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly announced recall by manufacture or a mandatory recall ordered by the CPSC. Despite this, our firm was still able to locate the recalled for sale on multiple sites.
Parents and care providers should immediately stop using this product. The product can be returned to VTech for refund.
More than 250,000 toy-related injuries occur in the United States each year. Through January 2018 alone, recalls have been issued on more than 300,000 VTech products due to posing serious injury hazards to children. There are strict federal regulations governing the manufacturing of children’s products to protect against injuries from dangerous and defective products.
Parents and care providers should report dangerous products and product-related injuries to the CPSC by going online to www.SaferProducts.gov or calling CPSC’s Hotline at 800-638-2772.
