Do I Have To Wear A Motorcycle Helmet In Ohio?

In the state of Ohio, it is not required for motorcyclists who are over 18-years-old to wear a helmet while on a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Helmets Save Lives

According to the Center for Disease Control & Protection, helmets prevent 37-percent of deaths of motorcycle drivers and 41-percent of deaths of motorcycle passengers. On their website they recommend that riders always wear a DOT-approved helmet in addition to protective clothing to help give injury protection.

There are 19 states, the District of Columbia, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands that have a universal helmet law. This means that all drivers are required to wear a helmet, no matter their age or level of license. There are 28 that have a law that require the use of helmet for specific riders, like Ohio. Finally, three states (Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire) do not have a motorcycle helmet law at all.
