Cynthia Walborn Retires After 18 Years With Boyk Law

Workers’ Compensation Paralegal Cynthia Walborn is
retiring after 18 years at Charles Boyk Law Offices.
Cynthia had five years of prior experience handling
Workers’ Compensation cases at another law firm
before coming to work with Chuck Boyk and Mike
Bruno. She started as a receptionist in December
of 2007, when the firm was located in downtown
Toledo’s Spitzer Building. At the time, Attorney
Chuck Boyk said Cynthia was “pleasant, helpful,
and conscientious, and does an excellent job of
providing friendly and helpful service to our clients.”
His observation was spot-on, and her attitude and
dedication to clients never wavered over the next
18 years.

She remembers moving the office down the street
to the 12th floor of the PNC Bank (formerly National
City Bank) Building at 405 Madison. She recalls
starting there, answering phones while the office
walls were still under construction. He work ethic and
determination also brought her into the office during
an ice storm, even though she had to climb the stairs
all the way to the 12th floor because the storm had
knocked the power out to the building.
That same commitment to getting the job done
helped her guide countless clients through the
challenges of the Ohio Workers’ Compensation
program..Cynthia says the process has become
more challenging over the years due to bureaucratic
changes in the state system, but that never deterred
her from working for our clients.

“Cynthia has been a fantastic advocate for our
workers’ compensation clients,” says Chuck Boyk.
“She will be missed. We wish her much happiness in
retirement.”

“Cynthia has been a great resource to me on all work
injury claims,” says Attorney Mike Bruno. “She came
to us with a great amount of experience already. Her
efforts have brought our workers’ compensation team
to a much higher level.”

Cynthia has experienced a lot of changes over the
past 18 years. Co-workers have come and gone, but
the sense of camaraderie has remained constant.
The staff at Boyk Law cares about one another. “We
became friends and were there for each other, as we
raised families and weddings… We always had each
other’s backs. It was a lot different environment from
my previous law firm.“

Cynthia’s career at Boyk Law was celebrated at a
recent event at our Holland office. She attended with
her granddaughter and her faithful office dog Gypsy
Rose. She was showered with retirement gifts and
well-wishes from her friends on the Boyk office staff.
“It was nice working for a compassionate and caring
firm,” Cynthia said to her co-workers. “Not all law
firms are like this. The attorneys and staff at Boyk Law
are very caring people, and they show it every day to
the clients we represent.”

Congratulations Cynthia! We wish you a long, happy,
and healthy retirement. Hopefully, she’ll enjoy more
opportunities for crafting projects and spending time
with her husband Evan, her family, and Gypsy Rose.
Jacklyn Gallagher and James Ferguson will continue
handling Boyk Law’s Workers’ Compensation cases.
