Settlements, Verdicts & Awards

We work hard to obtain maximum compensation for our clients. Constant communication, tough negotiating and expert trial skills have resulted in us obtaining millions of dollars in settlements for the injured.

Here are just a small portion of the damages we were able to collect on behalf of our clients. Due to the confidentiality clauses in some settlement agreements, we cannot share detailed information about many of our biggest cases on our website.

$128,744.20 SETTLEMENT

Our client was lawfully operating her vehicle in Toledo, Ohio, when the defendant pulled out of a parking lot directly in front of her. The Toledo Police Department cited the defendant for failure to yield.

As a result of the collision, our client suffered significant personal injuries. She presented to the emergency department with severe neck pain, headaches, and stiffness that were aggravated by everyday activities such as bending, twisting, driving, and lifting.

Diagnostic imaging revealed cervical spine abnormalities, including disc osteophyte complexes at C3-4 and C4-5 with mild foraminal narrowing. She underwent medial branch nerve block procedures, physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, and multiple injection therapies, achieving only moderate relief. Despite these efforts, she continues to experience chronic pain radiating into her shoulders, muscle spasms, and functional limitations. Her injuries prevent her from performing more than sedentary work duties.

Because of the persistence and severity of her symptoms, she requires ongoing pain management and interventional care, and she continues to endure lasting effects from the crash.

The team at Boyk tried the case and successfully secured a verdict for compensation for the costs of her treatment and additional damages.

$128,000 SETTLEMENT – THREE CAR ACCIDENT LEADS TO SPINAL SURGERY

Traveling eastbound on County Road 212, our client had a vehicle in front of him and a vehicle behind him. The vehicle behind him failed to keep a safe distance between their car and our client’s car. The car behind our client struck the rear end of our client’s car, causing our client to strike the rear end of the car in front of him. Our client presented to Wood County Hospital with complaints of a mild headache, left-side chest wall pain, and left-sided neck pain with radiation down the left arm. Imaging was performed at this visit, and it was determined that he suffered from a closed head injury and cervical muscle strain. Our client went through months of therapy, spinal surgery, and extensive rehabilitation. He missed a substantial amount of work due to treatment and is still feeling the effects.

Our client came to our firm soon after his accident for legal help. Due to the liable driver not having insurance, Charles Boyk and his team worked with our client’s insurance company to use his uninsured motorist coverage. After filing his case into litigation, our team was able to negotiate with the insurance company to get a settlement offer. Our client accepted an offer of $100,000.

Defendant’s Improper Merger Results in $122,631 Settlement

Our client was driving her daughter north on McCord Road to a dance class when the defendant driver, merging into her lane without looking, struck her vehicle. The responding police cited the defendant for failure to merge properly.

The collision caused our client to sustain significant injuries to her right wrist and arm. She was taken for immediate medical evaluation, which included x-rays and an MRI, ultimately leading to necessary surgery. Imaging confirmed damage to her CMC joint and volar oblique ligament.

In addition to her physical injuries, our client’s vehicle required repairs.

Recognizing the full scope of our client’s injuries and losses, Attorney Charles E. Boyk and his team meticulously compiled a powerful demand package for the at-fault insurer. This included not only the police report and collision evidence but also extensive medical documentation detailing the necessity of her right thumb carpometacarpal ligament reconstruction with tendon transfer. Our demand vividly outlined the permanent impairment and surgical disfigurement, the ongoing emotional distress, and the profound impact on her daily life, which included lost enjoyment and difficulty with driving, eating, dressing, and gripping items.

Crucially, we demonstrated how these permanent deficits prevented her from performing her job duties as a full-time event manager, securing compensation for lost wages and future earning capacity. Faced with this compelling presentation of liability, significant injury, and lifelong impact, the insurance company agreed to a substantial pre-litigation settlement. This recovery fully compensated our client for all medical expenses, property damage, lost income, and the permanent physical and emotional toll of the collision, allowing her to focus on her recovery and future.

Head-On Collision on Fearing Blvd Hospitalizes Parent and Infant, resulting in $100,000 Settlement

Our client and her nine-month-old child survived a terrifying head-on collision in the early hours of the morning on Fearing Boulevard. According to reports, a reckless driver traveling northbound crossed the median into oncoming traffic around 1 a.m., striking the family’s southbound car head-on.

The force of the initial crash caused a chain reaction, with a following vehicle braking hard but still slamming into the family’s car. The combined impact sent their vehicle hurtling off the road, over a curb, and into a fence. All airbags deployed in the vehicle, which was later declared a total loss.

Miraculously, the infant escaped serious injury. The parent, however, was rushed to UTMC with severe injuries, including a broken nose requiring a plastic surgeon, a punctured liver, and spinal swelling. The parent reported a loss of feeling in their feet and remained hospitalized for three days. As a working RNA, they now face a significant recovery period and lost wages.

In response to this horrific, multi-impact collision, our team moved swiftly to protect our clients. We conducted a comprehensive investigation, gathering all police reports, witness statements, and critical photographic evidence of the scene and the totaled vehicle. Armed with this documentation and a detailed account of our client’s severe injuries and ongoing recovery, we prepared and submitted a powerful demand package to the at-fault driver’s insurance company.

This demand clearly outlined the undeniable liability and the profound impact on our client’s life, health, and livelihood as an RNA. Faced with the overwhelming evidence and the compelling narrative of the family’s ordeal, the insurer opted to resolve the matter without litigation. We successfully negotiated a substantial pre-litigation settlement that fully compensated our client for all medical expenses, including future care, lost wages, property loss, and the immense physical and emotional trauma endured. Our attorneys are dedicated to taking decisive action to secure the resources our clients need to rebuild their lives.

Failure to Yield Results in $100,000 Settlement

A routine drive home turned tragic for a local STNA in August on State Route 20. According to a police report, our client was traveling through an intersection in the Green Springs area when a medical transport van abruptly and recklessly made a left turn directly in front of her, violating her right of way.

The violent T-bone collision triggered her airbags and crumpled her vehicle, which immediately began filling with smoke. As she struggled to escape, a quick-thinking small business owner, who had captured the terrifying turn on camera, rushed to her aid and helped her to safety.

Our client, was transported by ambulance to the hospital. She sustained significant injuries to her neck, back, and hand, along with widespread bruising, requiring imaging and forcing her to take a necessary but difficult leave from her critical caregiving duties during her recovery.

With clear liability established by the police report and eyewitness video, our team built an uncompromising case. We meticulously compiled all evidence, including powerful neurosurgeon evaluations and MRI findings that detailed the extent of our client’s disc herniations and spinal trauma. This expert medical testimony was crucial in definitively linking her injuries to the crash and demonstrating their severe impact on her life and ability to work as a dedicated STNA.

Faced with this incontrovertible evidence, the at-fault party’s insurer moved to resolve the claim without the need for a lawsuit. We successfully negotiated a pre-litigation settlement that fully compensated our client for her medical expenses, lost wages, vehicle damage, and the significant personal hardship she endured. At Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, we are committed to using every resource to secure justice for our clients, allowing them to recover their lives with dignity and financial security.
