Bruno v. Robot

Over the course of the past 42 years as a practicing lawyer, I’ve done my fair share of suing. I’ve sued people who crashed into and injured my clients. I’ve sued insurance companies in order to set fair value on claims. I’ve sued cities and counties, a rok-out facility, car dealerships, repair facilities, trucking companies, restaurants, nail spas, railroads, and more than once, the local amusement park.

Now, I feel it’s time to take my practice to the next level. I’m getting ready to sue a robot.

It’s not personal. I like people. I still sue them. I sometimes eat at McDonald’s. I still sue them. I previously defended insurance companies. I will continue to sue insurance companies. I have nothing against robots. In fact, one of my earliest memories was finding a robot named ”Mr. Machine” under the Christmas Tree. Other toys have come and gone. I no longer have Erector sets,

Lincoln Logs, G.I. Joe, or Hot Wheel cars. I still have Mr. Machine.

The current case against the robot centers on an incident that occurred on campus at Bowling Green State University. Our client finished her shift in Food Services and was walking on a sidewalk on her way to the parking lot, something she’d managed to do safely over the past 12 years on the job.

November 5, 2024, was different. On that day, unbeknownst to the client, she was being followed. And the trailing droid was going faster than our client, in fact, so fast that he/she/it collided into the back of our client’s knees, taking her down and causing her to suffer multiple injuries, including a hand fracture.

The client retained us to assist with her workers’ compensation claim. But we are not stopping there. We are also actively pursuing a case against the robot and his/her/its enablers. And we have retained the services of an expert who knows all about robots. You guessed it, Mr. Machine.
