Asbestos poisoning is a serious condition that many workers now suffer from after being exposed twenty to thirty years ago. Asbestos was used in the automotive, railroad, construction and manufacturing industries. The substance was widely utilized for its heat and fire resistance, but when disturbed, this substance is let into the air and can cause deadly side effects for those that inhale it.
When asbestos is inhaled, it then becomes trapped inside the lungs. After many years, symptoms begin to occur for the affected individual such as chest pain, crackling sound when breathing, shortness of breath, and even finger deformity. The difficult thing about asbestos poisoning is that there is no treatment for it or cure, the only thing that can be done is to try to stop its progression.
Some of the conditions that can result from asbestos poisoning include mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. The degree of asbestos poisoning the individual has depends on things such as the length of time that they were exposed to the substance, and the chemical makeup of the asbestos.
If the exposed individual has a smoking habit, the condition can be worsened.
