Gust Brothers Farm: Michigan’s Fall Tradition by Maya May

From Humble Patch to Seasonal Destination
In 1989, Dan Gust and his sons started selling pumpkins on a wagon in the front yard. That small beginning planted the seed for what would become Gust Brothers Farm, now one of Southeast Michigan’s favorite fall destinations.

The farm’s first focus was pumpkins, squash, and gourds. As the number of visitors grew, so did their offerings. Today, the farm grows more than 100 varieties of crops, produce, and seasonal décor.

A Full-Fledged Fall Experience
What started as a simple pumpkin patch has blossomed into a full autumn adventure. At Gust Brothers, families can enjoy:

– You-Pick or Pre-Picked Pumpkins, along with gourds, squash, straw bales, and corn shocks
– Flower & Produce Sales, including you-cut flowers and bouquets
– Farm Animals, from cows and goats to piglets, bunnies, and kittens
– Hayrides, offered on weekends (weather permitting)
– Corn Maze, Donuts, and Fresh Cider to round out the seasonal experience
– School Tours, by appointment, giving kids a hands-on look at farm life

Admission and parking are always free, making Gust Brothers an affordable way for families to celebrate fall. Gust Brothers is only 15 minutes from Toledo and Sylvania, just across the border in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. It is a convenient seasonal escape for local families. The barn and grounds create an inviting backdrop where guests can pick pumpkins, sip cider, and watch children discover the joy of feeding farm animals.

Over the years, the farm has become known not just for its pumpkins, but for its family-friendly charm. Guests return year after year to make traditions – whether that’s wandering the corn maze,  finding the perfect pumpkin, or simply enjoying donuts with loved ones.
