How Do I Pay My Medical Bills After An Accident?

Being injured in an accident due to the fault of another individual is a very stressful situation. There are several legal concerns that you must take care of as you simultaneously recover from the injuries sustained in the accident.

When seeking treatment after an accident injury, it is likely that you will start to receive numerous medical bills rolling in. Some injured victims are not sure of how they go about paying these bills.

Attorney Charles Boyk recently posted a video explaining the steps that you should take when paying your hospital bills following an accident.

The Situation:

You have been in an accident and have a large amount of medical bills. The accident is due to the fault of the other individual.

Our Recommendations:

1. Use your health insurance

First, if you have health insurance, you should run the bills through your health insurance.

2. Use your auto insurance

The second option is to run the bills through the medical payments portion of your auto insurance policy. The reasoning behind this is to first have the health insurance pay the medical bills that they will pay, and then if you have co-pays or deductibles, you use your medical payments provision to pay those bills without ruining your credit rating.

3. Use the defendant’s insurance

Eventually you will collect for your pain and suffering, inconvenience and medical bills from the other side’s insurance carrier, but on a typical basis, they will not pay these bills until you sign a full release. This is why it is important to first use your health insurance, then your auto insurance, and then the defendant’s insurance.

To ensure that you are taking the correct steps after your injury accident, you should hire an attorney. They will not only guide you with issues such as paying your medical bills, but also will help you to ultimately receive the compensation that you deserve for your injuries.
