In April of 2017, our client’s teenage daughter was attending a sleepover at her friend’s house in Perrysburg, Ohio, when she was sexually assaulted by her friend’s grandfather.
The alleged assailant frequently provided transportation for the girls’ extracurricular activities. At the time of the assault, the only adult in the home was the perpetrator. This abuser had a history of sexually inappropriate behavior involving minors.
Following the incident, our client’s daughter was afraid to disclose what had happened, fearing it would jeopardize the close friendships between her family and her assailant’s family. However, after noticing psychological changes in their daughter, our clients put her in counseling.
Through counseling, our clients’ daughter was finally able to share her experience. As a result, the alleged abuser is facing criminal charges in Perrysburg Municipal Court.
The Emotional Toll of Abuse
Unfortunately, the psychological trauma our client’s daughter is grappling with will likely require years of psychological treatment, which has already cost a substantial amount of money to our clients.
Following this incident, our clients approached our firm to see what civil remedies were available to them. Our experienced personal injury lawyers worked compassionately and thoroughly with them to develop a plan that might bring some form of justice to their daughter for the trauma she has experienced.
As a result, we are pursuing a lawsuit on counts of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. In addition, we are seeking punitive damages against the respondent for his malicious and repugnant actions.
