Semi Strikes Vehicle On Turnpike, Kills Fremont Man

There was a fatal accident on the Ohio Turnpike Tuesday afternoon in which one person died. We called attention to the fatal turnpike crash in our blog earlier this week, reviewing the details known at the time about the accident, as well as sharing advice on how the family might handle such a tragic accident.

Now that more details are known about this tragic turnpike accident, we would like to follow up in the interest of our readers.

According to the Toledo Blade, the man who was killed in this Ohio Turnpike accident was 67-year-old John Madden of Fremont. He had been stopped in traffic on the turnpike when his SUV was struck by a tractor-trailer. The impact of the semi striking him caused him to also collide with the rig in front of him.

The driver of the semi that struck Madden from behind was 39-year-old, Michael French. Madden was then pushed into the semi in front of him driven by 58-year-old Randolph Clarke.

The impact of being struck by the semi and colliding with the second semi caused Madden to lose his life; he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No other injuries were reported related to this collision.

As far as we know, the accident is still under investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Madden family as they go through this extremely difficult time. We understand how tragic of an accident this is and we are sending well wishes their way.

Semi Cause Fatal Accident on Ohio Turnpike

It appears as though this fatal accident was due to the fault of the semi driver who struck Madden from behind, causing him to then become pinned between two semis. We would advise his family to contact an attorney for this accident because it is likely that they will begin to receive phone calls and insurance-related information requesting action.

Semi drives too close to the car, causes a serious accident.

While we understand it seems very early to contact an attorney so soon after an accident, it helps the process and allows the family to focus on what is important – spending time together, remembering their loved one.
