Fatal Crash On US 20
The Accident
On Tuesday morning, a semi truck collided with a Dodge Ram on US 20 near County Road 128 in Sandusky Township.
Driver of the Dodge Ram, Daniel Magers Jr.
, ran a stop sign causing the two vehicles to collide. Magers and his passenger, Shannon Mcgrew, were thrown from the vehicle, and Magers was pronounced dead at the scene. Mcgrew was taken first to Fremont hospital, and then taken via medical helicopter to Toledo St.
Vincent Medical Center.
Our thoughts are with the Magers family, and we wish Mcgrew a speedy recovery for the injuries she has suffered. The driver of the semi truck, Russell Lucas, did not sustain any injuries.
Legal Issues Arising From This Accident
In this accident, Magers had failed to stop at the stop sign, causing the collision of the Dodge Ram with the semi truck. Ohio Revised Code § 4511.43 Right-of-way rule at stop signs explains:
- Every driver of a vehicle… approaching a stop sign shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering it.
- After having stopped, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time the driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways.
