Fatal Car Accidents Prevented By Red Light Cameras

According to a new study that included Toledo Ohio, red light cameras are effective in preventing fatal car accidents caused by drivers running red lights.

The study says fatal car accidents were reduced by 24 percent in the 14 large cities included in the data. There was also data showing that all kinds of fatal accidents were lessened at intersections with the cameras (not just those caused by running red lights).

Although some drivers say the cameras cause more accidents than they prevent and constitute and invasion of privacy, such groups as AAA support the use of the cameras as long as they are used for sound reasons.

Toledo’s rate of fatal crashes caused by running lights was reduced by 39 percent.
