Actos Causes Bladder Cancer: Litigation Update

Our office wrote several blogs highlighting the fact that Actos (pioglitazone) has been linked to bladder cancer. Those individuals who have used the drug for extended periods of time have an increased risk of developing bladder cancer.

A recent update on Actos litigations was published in the Jere Beasley Report. The article, The Actos Litigation Update, explains how the lawyers at the law office of Beasley Allen are pursuing claims of bladder cancer diagnosis as a result of taking Actos for type 2 diabetes treatments. Two lawyers, Andy Birchfield and Roger Smith, are involved in the Bellwether trials, one of which opened early February and the other is set for July.

Since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned that Actos use for more than one year appears to double the risk of developing bladder cancer, there have been over 6,000 lawsuits filed involving the cancer allegations with three of those claims going to trial. There are currently 17 cases scheduled to go to trial in 2014, including two Bellweather cases that are mentioned earlier in this report, and in the full article in the Jere Beasley Report.
