8 Children Injured When Truck Hits School Bus Near Detroit

A truck has hit a school bus on Interstate 696 in southern Oakland County’s Madison Heights, injuring eight of the 34 children on board. News reports showed that the bus was one of two from the Port Huron school district and was struck from behind as its driver was turning north onto I-75.

According to reports both buses slowed about 9 a.m. then stopped while waiting to exit I-696. The driver of the semi-trailer could not stop in time and struck the rear of the second bus. Thankfully all of the injuries were considered minor. The students were being treated at an area hospital and the two adult chaperones and the bus driver were not hurt.
