60th Boyk Brief Podcast Episode Spreads Sunshine
For more than 75 years, Sunshine Communities has provided support, care, and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities across Northwest Ohio. During a recent conversation on the Charles E. Boyk Podcast, Mallory Crooks shared the organization’s powerful story and the mission that continues to guide its work today.
Founded in 1950 by parents searching for compassionate care options for their children, Sunshine Communities was built on the belief
that every person deserves dignity, connection, and the opportunity to experience life fully. Today, the organization supports hundreds of individuals through residential services, therapy programs, employment opportunities, transportation, and community engagement.
Crooks spoke about the importance of creating true community — not simply providing care, but making sure individuals feel included, respected, and valued. Whether through volunteer opportunities, concerts on campus, employment at Georgette’s Grounds & Gifts, or everyday interactions, Sunshine Communities continues to create meaningful connections for the people it serves.
