Injured By Molosser Dog Bite
Injured By Molosser Dog Bite

There are 1,000 people that require emergency treatment for a dog bite every day in the U.S. A study performed between September 1982 and December 31, 2012 shows startling statistics that many may not expect. The study, found on DogsBite.Org, shows that of all dog bites and attacks, molasses dogs (pit bulls, rottweilers, presa canaries, cane corsos, mastiffs, dogo argentines, fila brasieros) are responsible for the following:

  • 79% of dog attacks that induce bodily harm
  • 72% of attacks to children
  • 85% of attacks to adults
  • 69% of attacks that result in fatalities
  • 77% that result in maiming

Of the above statistics, pit bull attacks outnumber all others. They are known for attacking adults at the same frequency as children, which is rare among dog bites. If a pit bull is having a particularly bad day, they often maim or kill someone as a result.

The number of deaths caused by molosser dog bites and attacks is alarming. The chart below shows the result of the molosser dog bite attacks from 1982 – 2012:
