Fatal Motorcycle Accident Raises Concerns For Safety
A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Hill Avenue Tuesday night, killing both the driver and the passenger. This accident raises several concerns regarding the safety of motorcycles and the crash statistics throughout the past few years.
Between the years of 2010-2012, there were 509 motorcycle deaths in Ohio alone, and 11,480 injuries. Motorcyclists themselves were found to be at fault 71-percent of the time. These crash statistics are very concerning, and with the recent motorcycle accidents in our area, they have become very real.
Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the recent accidents in the Toledo area have made it seem even more important to spread local awareness.
Our law office shared tips to the community on how to reduce the risk and involvement in motorcycle accidents, included safety measures for both cyclists and other drivers on the roadway. We also released five general safety precautions to be aware of during motorcycle season.

Ohio’s Helmet Law
Did you know that it is not mandatory for motorcyclists over the age of 18 to wear a helmet while on a motorcycle? Only those drivers with novice licenses and those under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while on a motorcycle. This is why you may see drivers on the roadways without helmets.
Our office wants to raise awareness of the importance of motorcycle helmets. Preventing serious injuries and deaths that come from motorcycle accidents is a major concern in our nation. While crash statistics are steadily growing, the good news is that motorcyclist drivers and passengers CAN protect themselves with helmets.
The CDC estimated that helmets may prevent 37-percent of crash deaths among motorcycle riders and 41-percent of crash deaths for motorcycle passengers.
