On Wednesday there was a 6-vehicle crash on I-475/U.S. 23 that ended up blocking traffic for nearly two hours. The accident happened near the U.S. 24 interchange in Maumee, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The Toledo Blade reported that the multi-vehicle accident happened at 10:01 in the morning. Unfortunately, we do not have any further details regarding this accident in terms of number of individuals involved or any sustained injuries.
Our office sends our thoughts to anyone involved in this accident. Our prayers are with anyone who has been injured as we wish them a speedy recovery. If someone was involved in this accident but didn’t sustain injury, we understand how overwhelming this situation still is, and we send our thoughts their way.
Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Accident
Multiple-vehicle accidents such as the one reported above can be very overwhelming for individuals. They are not only confusing for the people involved, but they result in several questions from the insurance company.
If someone is involved in an accident like this, they can expect to receive a call from the insurance company just days after the accident. The insurance company will attempt to receive information from them, a statement, and they will most likely offer a quick settlement. They do this in hopes of closing the case soon, ultimately keeping the injured victims from receiving the full amount of compensation that they deserve. While this saves the insurance company money, it can cause serious financial strain onto injured accident victims.
When Do You Settle a Case?
As we explained in a recent article posted in our FAQ section, there is no magic answer to the question regarding the length of time it takes to settle a personal injury case.
In the blog post, we made it clear that it is very important to not settle a case until you have ALL of your medical bills, lost wages, medical records and reports, and a report from your doctor of all future problems resulting from your injuries. This essentially means that you shouldn’t settle a case until your treatment is over. This could be months or years after an accident.
If you take a quick settlement from an insurance company soon after an accident, the amount of money may seem desirable at the time. But, when you take into account all of the medical visits you will have, future surgeries, and physical therapy, the settlement they offer may not even cover all of your treatment. This is why the lawyers at our office stress that injured accident victims should contact a lawyer after their accident so they can avoid this mess and make sure that they end up receiving the settlement that they deserve.
