Meet Blake Hornyak
Charles Boyk Law Offices is happy to welcome Blake Hornyak, our new Law Clerk at our Holland office. Blake grew up in Oregon, Ohio, and graduated from Clay High School in 2019. He went to Miami of Ohio for undergrad and got degrees in Psychology and Sociology. Blake is currently a second-year student at the University of Toledo College of Law. He plans to take the bar exam in July of 2026.
“I was interested in criminal law because it seemed like that’s where the really interesting stuff is,” says Blake, “and then when I got to law school, I discovered a lot more interesting stuff on the Civil side than I originally thought”.
Blake is gaining a lot of experience writing and researching cases for Boyk Law’s attorneys. “Getting stuck somewhere just looking over contracts all day sounds awful,” says Blake. “I always wanted to do something more on the active side of Law, and Charles Boyk Law Offices is a big litigation firm in the area, and they give me a lot of opportunities to work on the more active side of the law”.
Blake is also a full-time student while working at Boyk Law. He is currently researching and preparing his ‘note’ or article for the University of Toledo’s Law Review. “It’s still in the early stages,” explains Blake, “but I’m hoping to write about how cities and states around the country are changing zoning laws to allow for denser developments and more mixed-use buildings, as a means to bring down housing costs.”
Blake played tennis and was on the debate and swimming teams in High School. “I like to do like stuff with friends and I am a very social person in general,” he says, “I still play tennis and pickleball, obviously! A lot of my tennis skills can transfer over to pickleball,” says Blake, “and I can play with other people who never played tennis”.
Blake lives in Oregon and enjoys access to Pearson Metropark and Maumee Bay State Park. He has a twin sister Madison and a younger sister Lexie. They share three dogs, a Yorkie-Chihuahua mix, and a pair of Labradoodles.
