National Work Zone Awareness Week 2013

It seems fitting that National Work Zone Awareness Week takes place in April, during Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which we have been highlighting the past few weeks.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is meant to raise awareness about roadway safety for construction workers, drivers, and passengers.

On Monday morning, the Ohio Department of Transportation held an official event to kick off the week.

They have also provided a video aimed to inform Ohioans of the ways to stay safe while driving through construction works zones.

The video highlights the following main points:

  • There were 576 deaths in 2010 that resulted from vehicle crashes in work zones
  • Motorists must slow down when approaching work zones
  • It is important to read construction road signs with work zone instructions
  • Avoid distractions when in work zones

With construction season in full swing, there is no better time to promote safety and awareness in work zones.
