In August 2016, our 32-year-old client was traveling along State Route 51 in Ottawa Township, Ohio, when she was hit and killed by the defendant. On that fatal day, our client, her husband, and her father were all following each other in separate cars on their way to dinner. Our client’s husband drove ahead of her, and her father was in the car directly behind her as they drove. The drive took a tragic turn, though, when the defendant failed to yield at a stop sign and struck the back end of our client’s car. The impact caused her car to spin out and travel off the road, where her car struck a utility pole. Unfortunately, our client unfortunately died at the scene.
Witnessing the death of a loved one is something no one should ever have to experience, and our client’s family will never be the same because of it. We were contacted by the family just days after this horrific accident occurred and our team worked to help the grieving family through this difficult time by ensuring they got the justice they deserved. The loss of his wife left our client’s husband very lost as she was the one who managed the couple’s finances. Our client had no direction as to where to begin to navigate it all. Our team went above and beyond to do whatever we could to make things a little easier while he was grieving. In addition to obtaining policy limits settlements from the defendant’s insurance company and our client’s own underinsured motorist coverage, we also were able to negotiate directly with the defendant and he agreed to pay for our client’s funeral expenses out of his personal assets. There is no amount of money that can take away the pain that our client’s family has endured, but we were successful in reaching a settlement that will assist our client’s family as they move forward.
