Radiation therapy is a specialized type of ionized radiation that is directed by way of a linear accelerator to specific locations where the cancer is to control or kill the malignant cancer cells.
The third specialist would be a medical oncologist who is a specialist in cancers as well as the radiation oncologist but who specializes in determining and coordinating treatments for the cancer through different and appropriate forms of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that used one or more anti-cancer drugs as a regimen attempting to eliminate the cancer. It may be done to try to cure the cancer, to prolong the life of the patient, or simply to reduce some of the symptoms associated with the cancer.
