Ohio Traffic Deaths

The number of traffic deaths in the state of Ohio could hit a record low this year. For the first time in the history of the state’s records, the number of deaths this year could be below 1,000.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, up until this Monday, the total number of fatalities is 823 in Ohio.

This is the lowest number up until this date since 2011 when the total deaths at the end of the year were 1,016.

The peak of traffic fatalities in Ohio was 1939 when the number was 2,778. Thankfully there have been countless improvements to safety and better construction techniques have been utilized since then.

Why are the numbers low?

The improving numbers have been attributed to people slowing down on the road, the way troopers handle traffic stops, and a collaboration between patrol, sheriffs and police departments.

One of the 1,000

While the total number of fatalities is decreasing, there are still a lot of people that have lost their lives on the roadway. At the end of this year, there will be approximately 1,000 families to go through one of the most unimaginable things ever – losing someone they love unexpectedly.

To those families, we send our thoughts and prayers.

Losing a family member in an accident is tragic and confusing. Many people do not know what legal rights they have after an accident such as this. We always advise the family members of those individuals killed in an accident to contact a lawyer as soon as possible. These situations are confusing because there are things that can be done immediately following an accident to start a case. This is why hiring an attorney for a wrongful death case sooner, rather than later, can only help your family’s chances of receiving a favorable settlement.
