Left Of Center Causes Fatal Accidents
A recent article posted on the Fremont News Messenger website calls attention to the seriousness of left-of-center accidents.
In Sandusky County, there were four separate crashes in 2013 that resulted in the death of six individuals.
Three out of the four accidents were caused when a motorist drove left-of-center.
Left-of-Center Accidents
Driving left-of-center has the potential to result in a very serious accident.
If a motorist drives left-of-center at the time that another vehicle is coming toward them in the opposite direction, they could potentially hit that vehicle head-on – a cause of many fatalities.

Ohio Revised Code: Left of Center
The Ohio Revised Code 4511.29 Driving to left of center of roadway in overtaking and passing traffic proceeding in same direction states that no driver shall drive left of center of the roadway in overtaking and passing traffic in the same direction unless the left side is clearly visible and free of oncoming traffic for a long distance ahead. This would be permitted when an individual would be passing another vehicle.
This however cannot be done if it has potential to interfere with traffic, putting motorists and passengers in danger.
No matter what, if someone does go left of center (even if it is safe and they are passing a vehicle), they must return to their authorized lane as soon as possible to keep others safe on the roadway.
Violating this section of the Ohio Revised Code can result in a minor misdemeanor. As we stated above, going left of center when it is not safe to do so has the potential to cause very serious accidents.
