Family Dog Kills Infant Child
It is with great sadness that our office reports that a 3-day-old baby was killed by a family dog yesterday.
Makayla Darnell was in her swing in the living room while her parents were in the kitchen around 6:30 p.m. when the family dog, estimated to be about 4 or 5 years old, attacked the infant fatally injuring the child.
The parents stated in the police report that they never even heard a sound from the dog or from the baby.
When Audrianna Myers and Jared Darnell found their child after the attack, they drove her from their home in Monroe Township to Blanchard Valley Hospital in hopes that the little child could be saved.
The baby was then flown to St. Vincent in Toledo where she was pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m.
The dog warden has taken the family’s dog into custody.
It is unclear at this time if the dog is going to be put down or if it will be released back.
