Ending 2021 With Believing Survivors and Seeking Justice
Ending 2021 With Believing Survivors and Seeking Justice

The “Me Too” movement sparked millions of recollections of sexual assault and abuse by prominent Hollywood figures in 2017.  The movement created a pedestal for survivors to share their stories and seek justice for past abuse. Since 2017, many victims still find the courage to come forward to the public with their stories and seek consequences for their abusers. 2021 has been no exception, with many notable names still creating headlines from past abuses. Chris Noth, Marilyn Manson, Josh Duggar, James Franco, and Bill Cosby have found their way into the spotlight again, as this year comes to a close.

Celebrities’ Sexual Misdeeds

Chris Noth, an actor most notably seen in the HBO TV series Sex and the City received allegations this December following a reboot of the HBO hit. Two women have come forward detailing sexual misconduct dating back to the 2000s and 2010.

Noth has denied the allegations.
Brian Warner, or better known as Brian Warner, has been accused of sexual assault, rape, and sex trafficking by former girlfriends of the artist. Survivors of Warner have been coming froward since the early 2000s, but new attention was brought after an Instagram post in February of this year by Evan Rachel Wood.
Josh Duggar, a former “19 Kids and Counting” star, was convicted of possessing and viewing child pornography, facing up to 20 years in prison. Duggar’s deviancy dates back several years, beginning with alleged molestation of his sisters and a Jane Doe.
James Franco and Bill Cosby also found themselves in the spotlight this year for starkly different reasons. Franco, accused of sexual misconduct and forcing acting students to perform sexual acts, has settled a class action suit for 2.2 million dollars for his victims.
Cosby on the other hand, was originally accused and sentences to 3-10 years for rape allegations of over 60 women.

This sentence has since been overturned and Cosby walked free in June of this year. Frequently sexual assault allegations, stay only that, allegations.

Beginning in 2017 that began to change, but there is still a great amount of work to be done.
