Christmas Trees And Fire Hazards

Around the holiday season decorations go up all around us. Homes and offices are transformed into winter wonderlands. Unfortunately, these decorations can often increase your chances of having a fire. It is estimated that 240 home fires involving Christmas trees and about 150 home fires involving holiday lights occur every year. The average result is 21 deaths and $25.2 million in property damage.

By following simple safety tips, you can reduce your family’s risk and stay safe this holiday season.

The first and probably the biggest is properly caring for your tree. Keep your tree watered. A well-watered tree will not usually catch on fire easily.

Do not place your tree close to a heat source. The heat will dry out your tree quickly.

When it comes to decorations make sure you are using only nonflammable ones, don’t block exits when decorating, do not overload electrical outlets and never leave your lights unattended.

Here at the Charles Boyk Law Offices, we would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season. Please remember these safety tips.

Happy Holidays!
