6 Killed In Accident With Ohio Officer

It has been reported by the police that six people were killed and an officer was injured after a car and a police cruiser collided. The accident happened at an intersection in Upper Arlington, Ohio early Wednesday.

Jason Pappas, the head of the local police in the area of the accident, reported that an officer from the suburban Upper Arlington area was in the process of responding to a robbery when the accident happened. Reportedly, the police cruiser’s lights and siren were on at the time of the collision.

The six people in the other vehicle that collided with the police cruiser all died, including a young child. It is believed that none of those individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The officer has been treated for a serious head injury but has been reported to be stable.

Our thoughts go out to the family of those who has been lost in this accident. We cannot imagine the heartbreak that is being experienced right now. We also hope the officer involved recovers from his injuries as soon as possible.

Accidents of this Nature

An accident of this type is heartbreaking and can be very confusing. There are several factors that are unknown at this time so we cannot necessarily give a proper case evaluation. What we would advise the family of those who was lost in this accident to do would be to contact a lawyer as soon as possible.

If the accident was due to the officer’s failure to proceed cautiously through the intersection, Ohio Revised Code 4511.03 would come into play. This part of the Ohio law states that “the driver of any emergency vehicle or public safety vehicle, when responding to an emergency call, upon approaching a red or stop signal or any stop sign shall slow down as necessary for safety to traffic, but may proceed cautiously past such red or stop sign or signal with due regard for the safety of all persons using the street or highway.”

Accidents of this nature can also lead to questions regarding personal injury claims against municipalities. We have outlined in another blog post how it is imperative to have a lawyer helping you throughout the process.

Ask a Lawyer

By contacting a lawyer soon after an accident, a victim and their family can be sure that the proper steps are being taken in the legal process, further increasing the chance of receiving a favorable settlement.
