Boyk Veteran Scholarship Winner Announced

Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, LLC is pleased to announce Jackson F.

Leonard, of Indianapolis, Indiana, is the winner of the 2020 Boyk Law Veteran Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is part of Boyk Law’s continued commitment to members of the United States Armed Forces and their education.

Meet Jackson

Jackson is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Infantry. During his service from 2014 to 2018, he served as an anti-tank missileman and was deployed to Libya and Syria. Currently, Jackson is a full-time student of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis studying Spanish and Medical Humanities and ultimately hoping to pursue a Master of Physician’s Assistant Studies degree.
After his military service, Jackson began working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) which he continues to do full-time as he pursues his education.
In his essay, Jackson describes how his military service shaped his worldview and opened his eyes to the suffering experienced by so many, both domestic and abroad. From seeing refugees stranded by war in Syria to those struggling to wade through the immigration process to build new lives in the United States, Jackson believes he can be a healer in a world that needs considerable care.

Soon after starting his new career as an EMT, Jackson realized that some in his community were not receiving comprehensive care because of insufficient bilingual medical workers. He took it upon himself to begin learning Spanish and incorporated those studies into his degree.
Jackson also volunteers as a tutor for adults learning English at the Washington Township School’s Adult Education program in Indianapolis, because he wants to help immigrants pursue the American Dream.

How Did We Pick Jackson?

A review panel comprised of Boyk Law employees reviewed all applications and unanimously selected Jackson to receive the scholarship. Jackson exemplifies the mission of Boyk Law to help those in need and seek justice for those injured by the negligence of others. The entire staff wishes Jackson the best of luck in his continued studies and looks forward to seeing his positive impact on the world.
