Transvaginal Mesh Lawyer

The FDA has issued a warning that serious injury can occur after undergoing a transvaginal mesh device implant.  The device was first introduced in the 1990s to be a permanent fix for something called pelvic organ prolapse (POP). This is a condition that mostly affects older women and things like childbirth, a hysterectomy, or menopause can be contributing factors to the condition.

POP happens when the pelvic muscles weaken, causing pelvic organs to drop into the vagina. To fix it, doctors have been surgically implanting a synthetic mesh transvaginally to help support those organs that have prolapsed.

2008 was the first year that the FDA released a statement regarding the mesh and they said that there could be serious complications after the surgery but that they were rare. In 2011, however, they made an update to this advisory statement saying that the serious complications associated with the vaginal mesh implant were not rare. The FDA also told manufacturers that they must conduct a safety study on their product.
