Sylvania Northview Girls’ Lacrosse Team Win First Game

The Sylvania Northview High School Girls’ Lacrosse team won their first game against Central Catholic 10-2. On their way to victory, the Lady Kats became the first team in Ohio to require their players to wear helmets.

High School girls’ lacrosse features less contact than the boys’ version, but head injuries and concussions are still common. Sylvania Northview had multiple players sit out games in 2024 due to
concussions.

Charles Boyk Law Offices purchased helmets to protect the Sylvania Northview High School Girls’ Lacrosse team. Although girl’s high school lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, helmets are not mandated for girls in Ohio.

Miranda Price is Northview’s assistant coach and also a paralegal at Charles Boyk Law Offices. “Last season we had six concussions and one of them put the girl out for the whole season,” says Miranda. “So, we’ve been looking for ways to have this game be safer.”

She told Chuck Boyk of their plan to require helmets for their players, and he offered to buy them for the entire team.

“Head injuries are very serious. I hope these helmets will inspire other teams to take steps to enhance player safety,” says Chuck Boyk.
