Small Business Profile – Wixey’s Bakery: A Toledo Tradition For 95 Years
Wixey’s Bakery, at 2017 Glendale, in South
Toledo, is one of the last remaining neighborhood
full-service bakeries in town. Its position and
importance in the community have grown into
more than an amazing bakery; it has developed
into a Toledo destination over the past 95 years.
Countless doughnuts, pastries, breads, and cookies
have passed out the door of the old bakery over
the years. Wixey’s cakes have become a traditional
part of weddings, birthdays, graduations, and
retirement parties for area families.
It was founded in 1930 by Percy Wixey, and the
family business has been passed down from
generation to generation ever since. Today, it is
owned and operated by the brother and sister
team of Denise Wixey-Coulter and Brian, the
fourth generation of the Wixey family to run the
bakery.
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who grew
up in Northwest Ohio who hasn’t enjoyed one of
Wixey’s delicious treats. For many local families,
the holiday season isn’t complete without some
of their desserts, breads, and other pastries on the
dining table. Coming home for the holidays
essentially means coming home to Wixey’s.
