Day in the Life Video Provides Tangible Benefits to Clients

An auto accident or other personal injury can be a devastating life-altering event for our clients. These events often result in impaired mobility, broken bones, and loss of life. However, the consequences of these traumatic events can get lost in a lawsuit.

Due to nervous anxiety, anger, poor literacy, or other reasons, it is difficult for some clients to adequately articulate the raw emotion and lasting impact that their injury has on their quality of life during a deposition or trial testimony. The resulting outcome can adversely affect their settlement.

Charles Boyk Law Offices uses video to help convey the impact on our client’s life. We employ an experienced video producer as a storyteller. Greg Tye is Boyk Law’s Marketing Content Producer.

Before coming to Charles Boyk Law, he was director of video production at the Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye. He also has extensive experience as a video producer with WGTE Public Media working on the “Toledo Stories” series. During his time there, he created dozens of broadcast documentaries with a strong emphasis on local history. His Emmy nominated work includes histories of the Toledo Bar Association, Zoo, Museum, Metroparks, and Jeep.

Today, Tye uses his years of experience at Boyk Law to create documentary-style videos that accurately and emotionally convey our client’s story, both before and after their accident or injury.

Interviews are conducted in the client’s home, in a setting where they are comfortable. He takes the time to talk with the client about the interview process ahead of time to put them at ease. Then he asks questions that draw out their story.

These “Day in the life” videos are edited for content and incorporate accident scene footage, family photographs, x-rays and medical reports along with the diagnosis and long-term prognosis from their treating doctor or therapists. Occasionally, Tye will visit the accident scene with the client to record their account of what happened.

“Clients are often apprehensive when told that we’d like to interview them,” says Tye. “Once I describe the process and explain how it can help with their case, they are usually willing to try it.”

Joan Christoffers was severely injured an auto accident, and while she was in the hospital, her family contacted Charles Boyk Law. After multiple surgeries, Tye contacted her about filming a video to help with her case. “When the video was proposed to me and we settled on a date, they came to my house, which was very good, because I wasn’t getting around very well,” she explains. “They came in and just chatted in normal way, while setting up the equipment, and I think putting me at ease. It was a nice little conversation about what happened to me,” says Joan. “It was a very comfortable situation. It lasted about an hour, and it was like having a nice conversation with somebody… It was quite a surprise to see how it had been put together so nicely…He took my photo albums and mixed that into the whole thing and that was very impressive.”

“The videographer is something I didn’t think about until I got the call, and then it made all the sense in the world, especially after going
through the process,” says Charles Boyk Law client, Ken Marciniak. “He was able to capture and help my wife and I, bring our situation to a head, much easier than I would have been able to do on my own, testifying somewhere or giving a deposition. Without the videographer, I don’t think we would have had the same results.”

A well-crafted video can convey a powerfully emotional, and accurate account of what happened to our client that emphasizes how an injury or accident has truly impacted their life. It is more effective than reading the facts in a deposition or medical report. “It is a very effective way to show their life before and after the accident, says Tye”

This unique service helps Charles Boyk Law Offices resolve cases quicker with better results for our clients.
