Following an automobile accident, our client sought medical treatment at a local chiropractor where he reported neck pain and numbness/tingling into the left arm down into his left hand. After a few weeks of attempting to alleviate his pain with chiropractic care and physical therapy exercises, the doctor referred our client to have an MRI of the cervical spine performed. The cervical spine MRI revealed a C5-C6 and C6-7 central disc bulge, which prompted the chiropractor to refer our client to an orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Ebraheim began treating our client on September 20, 2012. The initial chart notes incdicate that our client was still experiencing neck pain and numbness/tingling in the left arm/hand following an auto accident, which occurred on August 11, 2012. Examination revealed abnormal range of motion of the neck and muscle tenderness. Dr. Ebraheim administered a trigger point injection and instructed our client to take ibuprofen daily and to wear a soft c-collar.
After trying injections without success, Dr. Ebraheim referred our client to Dr. Azedine Medhkour, a neurologist, for consultation. Upon review of the MRI findings, Dr. Medhkour recommended an anterior cervical fusion with machined allograft at C5-C6 and C6-C7. The operation was performed on February 12, 2013 by Drs. Ebraheim and Medhkour. Surgery was successful and our client began to have feeling back in the left arm/hand.
Routine follow-up appointments with both Drs. Ebraheim and Medhkour show that our client’s symptoms were improving, numbness/tingling from the neck into the left hand was dissipating and he was on track to make a full recovery after completing a physical therapy regimen to regain strength and motion in the cervical spine. However, a second automobile accident occurred on January 24, 2014, bringing our client’s progress to a halt.
Our office was able to obtain a settlement of $220,882 for the first accident, allowing him to get his medical bills paid and focus on recovery. We are also helping him with his second accident claim.
