$125,000 Settlement – Woman Sustains Permanent Injuries in Auto Accident When Her Car Bursts into Flames

In 2019, our client sustained serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in her car bursting into flames. In this case two defendants were found to be at-fault. The first defendant had been traveling westbound on U.S. Route 6 in Wood County, Ohio. Failing to notice our client approaching from the other direction, this defendant turned directly in front of our client, causing a collision. Due to this collision, our client’s vehicle was disabled in the righthand lane along the road when the second defendant failed to see our client’s car and caused a second collision. This second collision caused our client’s vehicle to then burst into flames. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and our client was transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance to treat her injuries.

At the hospital, it was determined that our client had sustained multiple severe injuries. She was diagnosed with a closed head injury, whiplash, second degree burns to her ears, and numerous other injuries. Luckily, given the extent of the accident, none of our client’s injuries were life-threatening and she was able to be discharged from the hospital the same day. Though her initial injuries were not life-threatening, this accident had a significant impact on our client’s life. The burns to our client’s ears resulted in permanent scarring. While her plastic surgeon expressed that there would potentially be improvement with the scarring, he stated that the scarring would never completely go away. Our client also experienced continued pain after the accident. She suffered from headaches, dizzy spells, and ringing in her ears for a significant period of time after the accident. These symptoms made it so our client was unable to work for three months, and she relied heavily on her girlfriend for assistance after the accident.

Not only did our client sustain severe and permanent physical injuries, she also suffered substantial financial losses. Our client was in the process of moving and transferring her belongings to her new home when the accident occurred. As a result of her car being engulfed in flames, her car and many personal possessions were unsalvageable.

We were contacted shortly after this horrific accident to assist our client in her recovery. We were able to completely avoid the need for litigation as we were able to obtain satisfactory settlements from both of the defendants’ insurance policies for our client. While the settlement we were able to obtain for our client can never make her whole, the amount will go along way to assist our client in her recovery.
