Boyk Law Donates Walleye Playoff Tickets To Victory Center Families
In April, Charles Boyk Law ran a contest on our Facebook page to win our Toledo Walleye Playoff Tickets. Two Winners were selected randomly from a large pool of entries, and they got to enjoy the excitement of playoff hockey courtesy of Chuck Boyk. Typically, that is the end of the story.
Brandie Ray Vandercook’s entry caught our attention. She posted “Would love to take my Dad! It will probably be his last game. He has stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.”
Although she didn’t win the tickets through our random drawing, we contacted Brandie to offer her our tickets to the next home playoff game. Unfortunately, she contacted us to say that her dad was too ill to attend the game. She suggested that we offer them to another family with cancer in her dad’s honor.
When we told her that Boyk Law donated tickets for the following two games to the Victory Center which provides therapy support and counseling to cancer patients and their families, Brandie said “That’s wonderful. My dad has been there many times. An amazing place!”
Ronald Vandercook passed away a few days later, on May 6, 2024. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.
The Mission of The Victory Center is to provide hope and support to cancer patients, survivors, and those closest to them. They gave the tickets to Erin Steinmetz, a cancer survivor and active participant at the Victory Center, where her son attends Children’s Art Therapy, and Jenna Ellis, the widow of a participant who passed from glioblastoma. The Victory Center described Erin and her kids as “a beacon of hope for all who lose someone and have to find a way to move forward”.
