According to reports from law enforcement officials, 14-year-old Darius Vanbrook was crossing the street when he was struck by a pickup truck.

The vehicle, driven by an off-duty sheriff department corrections officer, was attempting to make a turn when it made contact with Vanbrook. Although the unidentified police officer was briefly treated at a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries, the teenage boy died instantly.
