Lawsuits Stack Up After DePuy Hip Replacement Recalls
Abdella Brown, of Virginia, filed a lawsuit against DePuy Orthopedics with the Ohio Northern District Court on May 7th 2012 for serious injuries she sustained due to a defectively designed ASR Hip Implant Device. Ms. Brown is now in need of revision surgery due to high cobalt and chromium levels in her body and severe pain that is caused by the recalled hip implants that remain inside of her.
DePuy ASR hip devices were recalled in August of 2010 and have generated more than 6,000 pending lawsuits against the implants creators, Johnson & Johnson.
In Ohio alone there have been reported almost 4,200 lawsuits for the case with Judge David A Katz overseeing the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
Studies have also shown that the DePuy device has a higher than anticipated failure rate ranging from 21% after four years of use and a staggering 49% after use in just six years.
