On Sunday night at 8:55 pm, a fatal accident occurred on US 20 near State Route 19 near Fremont. According to the Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of a vehicle is dead after crashing into an ODOT snowplow.

WTOL News reported that the driver of the vehicle was 22-year-old Daniel Johnson. He was going eastbound on Route 6 when he collided with the snowplow driven by 54-year-old Donald Schlea. The accident resulted in Johnson’s death on the scene, while Schlea was transported to the hospital with injuries.

According to 13 ABC News, Johnson rear-ended the ODOT snowplow. The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Our thoughts go out to the Johnson family during this unimaginable and difficult time. We also send well wishes to Schlea as he recovers from his injuries from this accident.

Injured in US 20 Accident

While we do not know further details regarding this accident, or how serious the injuries sustained by Schlea are, we would advise him and his family to contact a personal injury attorney. It also is imperative for this attorney to have experience with work injury cases as it appears as though Schlea was working at the time of the accident for ODOT.

It is always a good idea to contact an attorney soon after your accident due to several legalities that occur just days after the accident. While seeking legal advisement so soon seems early to some individuals, it helps accident victims to ensure that everything related to their case is being done correctly.

In our post titled 4 ways a personal injury lawyer will make your life easier, we explain the importance of contacting a lawyer as soon as possible. Some of the highlighted points in the post include:

  • Your lawyer deals with the paperwork – they will take care of paperwork related to your case, making life much easier for you and ensuring everything is done properly
  • You’ll receive the best medical care – our lawyers make sure clients see the best doctors and physicians for their conditions
  • Your lawyer will communicate with the insurance company – just days after the accident it is likely to begin to receive calls from the insurance company, including offers of quick settlements. When hiring a lawyer, they can then deal with the insurance company making things extremely easier for you as you recover from your injuries

The final point made in this post is the simple fact that when you hire an experienced and knowledgeable lawyer to represent you, the odds of you receiving a favorable settlement are much greater. You will have a professional working on your behalf, doing everything that they can to make sure you receive the compensation that is deserved.
