For the third time in 11 days there has been an accident caused by a wrong-way driver on I-75. The latest occurred around 3 a.m. Monday morning near Bancroft Street. A Dodge Charger, driven by Ronnell Richards, of Monroe, was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes when he went head on with a Penske truck, driven by Kevina Thomas, of Toledo. Mr. Richards and his passenger, Khary Phenix, of Monroe, were taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and were pronounced dead. Ms. Thomas was also taken to Mercy St. Vincent with minor injuries.
Sgt. Joe Heffernan of the Toledo Police says that the truck accident is still being investigated in order to find out where Mr. Richards was coming from and where they got on the interstate at. They also do not know how fast the vehicle was going yet. They are also running a toxicology report to see if he had been drinking, but that can take up to eight weeks to get the results.
