A 3-year-old girl tragically died Tuesday after she was hit by a car while attempting to cross the road. She ran into the path of traffic and was struck by a Hyundai automobile traveling westbound.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the driver attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the child.
She was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Pedestrian safety, especially child safety, is paramount. When driving into or through a school zone the attorneys at The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, LLC urge everyone to reduce their speed, put away all distractions, and to be extra diligent as kids often dart into the roadway in pursuit of a bouncing ball or toy. As parents, we teach our young children to always look both ways before crossing the street but sometimes in child exuberance they forget these lessons and run into the busy road. So please take extra care while driving in a school zone. A child injury or wrongful death are tragedies that can be avoided and even prevented.
