Amy Genszler Joins Boyk Law Pre-Litigation Team

Amy Genszler is a Pre-litigation Paralegal at Charles Boyk Law Offices. She checks on client treatment to make sure that they are going to their therapy or chiropractic appointments. She follows up with getting all the records and bills together so we can present their claim. “Essentially, I’m making sure that, all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed, so everything’s in order for the attorney. I make sure they have all the information they need to move the case forward.”

Amy‘s husband, John, is a pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Oregon. They have been married for 30 years and they have three sons. The oldest is in seminary in St. Louis, following in his dad’s footsteps. He’s married and has a little girl, and they’re pregnant with their second one. Her middle son is also married and lives in Alexandria, Minnesota. They have a little boy and are also expecting their second. Her youngest son is a mechanic and lives here in Toledo.

Amy grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio near Cleveland. She graduated high school there, and earned her BA from Ohio Northern University in elementary education. She taught Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders for about 10 years. After the birth of her second son, she left teaching and went back to school to become a paralegal.

“While in college, I worked a summer job for a family friend who was a defense attorney in downtown Cleveland,” says Amy. “I really enjoyed getting to know the clients and trying to help them out with their problems. I always felt that that was something I wanted to look into.”

She took an online program through Westwood College, while her youngest was in school. After she finished her Paralegal degree, she worked in a foreclosure firm in Milwaukee for about a year and a half before taking a position with a personal injury firm. “I found personal injury to just be much more my speed,” says Amy. “It’s not a super fast-paced moving thing. I did do one year of family law just last and I got at all. So I just like the pace of personal injury and really helping people understand how the process works.”

Amy worked in family law for a while but was looking to get back to a personal injury firm when she saw the opening at Charles Boyk Law Offices. “I came here for my interview, and it just felt so, so friendly and open,” says Amy. “I just really liked the atmosphere here. The people have all been great, very friendly and welcoming and helpful when I’ve had questions. It’s just been a really great place.”

Amy is also currently enrolled in Concordia Seminary, as an online student for the Deaconess program. “I’m going to be commissioned as a deaconess in two years,” she says. “I’ll be a theologically trained person who can work with people at my church. It’s a great way to get to know people and to help them out with different problems that they’re having.” However, Amy assures us that she is not looking to leave Boyk Law anytime soon. “It’s something I will do on the side because it’s not exactly a paid position.”

Amy says one added benefit of her Seminary classes is a greater understanding of people. “It is really helping me to be more compassionate towards the clients and by really listening to their stories. It’s helping me establish a good rapport with them.”

Amy has two cats, both named for Star Wars characters. “We have General Kenobi and we have Jaina, who is the daughter of Han and Leia in the books, not in the movies,” explains Amy. She says her family’s favorite film is Episode Five: The Empire Strikes Back.

“I really enjoy working with attorney Zac Shaffer and the other members of my team,” says Amy. “I like the atmosphere here and helping people understand the process. When a client is in some sort of injury situation, and they don’t understand how it all works, I like to be able to help them understand that we’re here to help them navigate the whole thing. Yes, it can be tricky, but we’re going to help them, and we’ll be there for them when they have questions and issues.”
