Cheryl Blair was walking her dogs in the woods behind her home on New Year’s Eve when a hunter shot her Saturday night, allegedly mistaking one of her golden retrievers’ tail for that of a dear. John Bergeron, a neighbor, fired a single shot from his rifle and the .50 caliber lead ball tore through Blair’s side.
Blair was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where she remains in intensive care. The pellet did not hit any vital organs but fragments still remain in her hip. Doctors suggest that 66-year-old Blair will suffer chronic pain and possibly walk with a limp once she recovers.
