A fatal accident on Thursday resulted in the closure of the Ohio Turnpike for almost two hours. The accident happened on the turnpike in Archbold.
The Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating this fatal turnpike crash. It happened on Thursday afternoon at around 2 p.m. as the roadways were covered in snow. The winter weather has been deemed a factor in this accident.
What happened in this crash was that 26-year-old Chris Gasper was driving on the turnpike when he lost control of his vehicle and struck another car. His vehicle was then struck by a semi.
Gasper died from his injuries, but the driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
Our office’s thoughts and prayers are with the Gasper family during this tragic time.
Winter Weather Accidents on the Turnpike
This accident is very tragic. Winter weather has been pounding the area since the beginning of the year and drivers must operate their vehicles with extreme caution to reduce the likelihood of being involved in an accident.
Our office has shared several posts highlighting the importance of safe driving when the roads are covered with snow or ice. Our goal is to educate readers and help reduce the number of accidents that result from inclement weather. Snow and ice can cause drivers to easily lose control of their vehicle and either cause injury to themselves or others on the roadway.
Another important thing for motorists to know is that if they lose control of their vehicle on a snow or ice-covered roadway and cause an accident with another vehicle, they would be deemed the at-fault driver. You cannot blame accidents on the weather, even if they are a major factor.
