The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that they will be closing the Craig Bridge until March 15, 2014.
The bridge will be closed starting January 6 at 7 a.m. for painting work. The project is expected to be completed by mid-March.
This closure will affect many Toledo area drivers as they use the bridge to enter the downtown area. ODOT has explained that they are closing it during this time because there are no ships that will come through the Maumee River during these few months. They also want to complete this project before the Anthony Wayne Bridge closes near the end of 2014.
The painting work that the Craig Bridge will receive consists of painting the bascule spans. Workers will do so using special warming tents as we all know the temperatures are becoming frigid in the coming month.
Our office would like to remind readers to plan for the closure so they do not realize it as they are on their way to a destination. When travel hiccups occur, such as a main bridge for transportation being closed, some drivers get irritated behind the wheel, which affects their ability to operate their vehicle in a safe manner. We would rather notify as many area drivers as we can in an effort to prevent any frustration behind the wheel.
If the bridge affects your daily commute, or someone you know will be affected by it, please share this article with them.
