Toledo, Ohio dog bites injury victims are victims twice | Findlay, Ohio dog bite lawyers

In light of the recent news coverage on Ohio dog bite injuries and the adoption of pit bull puppies from the Lucas County Dog Warden's office, our office performed research to find out if homeowners' policies would cover a victim in the event of a pit bull dog bite injury.

It is very difficult to find an insurance company that would write a policy to cover a pit bull living in the home. That means that if that pit bull were to bite someone, the insurance policy would not cover his or her injuries.

"In my 26 years of representing dog bite victims, the majority of the injuries come from pit bull bites," Attorney Chuck Boyk said. "And yet there is hardly ever insurance coverage because companies just won't write pit bulls into the policies."

Our office spoke with three different local insurance agents and found:

   • Almost ALL homeowner's insurance policies will not write the policy if there is a pit bull or pit bull mix living in the household.

   • If the policy is written for a household including pit bulls, any and all injuries resulting from the pit bull's actions will be denied coverage.
