Can I just say that this place is truly heaven? A friend of mine told me about Balance a while ago; she talked about the décor and how relaxing the place was, but more importantly she told me about the concept of the place. I live in Downtown Toledo and I seldom have to leave the area to find great places to eat. But I decided I wanted to go to someplace different so we decided to go to Balance.  Man, was that ever a good call!

Right away when you walk in the place it's a treat for the senses in every way. Sleek, modern, clean and airy are a few of the many words that describe the visual interest of the space. It's very sunny and bright and it just puts you in a good mood.

The let's talk about the smell:  savory spices, onion, garlic and ginger fill your nose right away. Combine all that with the sound of the sizzling of food and I know this place was going to be an experience. I ordered the Nuts4PAO, which had brown rice, shrimp, peanuts and scallions with peppercorns. So good! And the Balance house sauce was spicy yet sweet; it was amazing.  My boss likes spicy so I decided to try this one in his honor, and it exceeded every expectation: crunchy, spicy, salty and sweet all at the same time. I was blown away! It was so fresh so clean-pair it with a pomegranate lychee tea and you are in heaven. 

I listened to some of the people around us who were there for their third time in the week comment on how many times they come and how well they enjoy it each time they eat there. The prices are really good, not over priced, and the portions are great. You are really filled up, but it's the type of full where you know you ate something good for the soul. 

The craze definitely seemed to be this bubble tea, but you know me, I got to be different (it did look good though). I love that this place is hip and way above the normal places you see in the area. The menu items are hip and well thought out: you get to choose your sauce, your protein, and your carbs for a well-balanced meal. I mean, who else does that?

I could see this place doing well in Downtown Toledo with the many young and urban dwellers in and around the area; it would be that cool new spot that downtown needs.  Its location won't stop me from going, but just think-something like that would be just the thing many people coming downtown would want to experience. 

My tiara's off to PK and the gang at Balance for doing something different and for it being new and obviously a hit.  Way to think outside the box guys!
