Start High Junior Tomas Martinez made such an impact on his Precision Machining/Industrial Technologies teacher, Karl Borko, that it won him the title of November Student of the Month, along with a $50 Visa gift card.

"Along with his full schedule here, he also is taking post-secondary evening classes at the University of Toledo and holding down a part time job at Kroger's," Mr. Borko said. "He is extremely bright and very good natured and helps other students at the drop of a hat in our lab. I hope we can get more kids like him into this program and watch him and they turn into fantastic adults. Kids like this will save manufacturing in our area."

Another proud teacher was Michelle McConkey, after learning that her student, Paris Murray, nominated her for Teacher of the Month. Ms. McConkey was all smiles when she was handed a $250 Visa gift card and a plaque recognizing her efforts.

"I wanted to nominate Ms. McConkey because she is helpful in every way you could expect," Paris said, "And she's very nice!"

For taking the time to create a video nomination of a teacher, Paris was awarded a $50 Visa gift card.

Each month, Boyk Law chooses one teacher and one student from a pool of nominations to win various gift cards. Students must submit a video nomination and teachers recognize students using a survey.
