Space heaters and camping don't mix | Toledo, Ohio defective products lawyers

As summer vacation nears, the number of families who go camping increases. Evenings can be cold, especially in beginning summer months, and space heaters may be used in camper and tents.

Our Toledo, Ohio defective lawyers want to remind consumers that home space heaters can be very dangerous. They must be used properly in order for families to avoid serious and potentially fatal accidents caused by fires.

Here are some tips that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) offers on using home space heaters, compliments of the Jere Beasley Report:

  • - Place space heaters on a level, hard and nonflammable surface (such as a ceramic tile floor), not on rugs or carpets or near bedding or drapes.
  • - Keep the heater at least three feet from bedding, drapes, furniture and other flammable materials.
  • - Keep children and pets away from space heaters.
  • - To prevent the risk of fire, don't ever leave a space heater on when you go to sleep or place a space heater close to any sleeping person.
  • - Always turn the heater off if you leave the area. Never use gasoline in a kerosene space heater.

All of us should heed these warnings and follow the safety recommendations from the CPSC. If you have been injured by a defective product, you need information. Contact our office at 800.637.8170 for your free consultation and case evaluation.
