Late Tuesday a black pickup truck struck a bicyclist in Perkins and fled the scene of the accident. Police are continuing their search to find the driver of the truck.
About 11:15 p.m. the truck was headed east on Perkins Avenue when it struck the cyclist just east of Hayes Avenue. The collision knocked the bicycle and its rider off to right side of the road, into a patch of mud and grass.
The bicyclist's name was not immediately available, but police said his injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.
Shortly after the accident the victim was conscious and speaking with the firefighters. He was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center.
One witness told police this: "It's a large, oversized black truck." The witness told police there were no other unique markings on the truck - but it was an older-style pickup.
The witness said the truck swerved and she saw a flash of metal "that almost looked like something fell off the truck," Hilton said.
